Squadron History:

With 15 Cadets enrolled and parading at Port Moody High School in 1965, 754 Coquitlam Squadron received its Charter on January 4, 1965, officially establishing it as an Air Cadet Squadron. It was the first Air Cadet Squadron in School District 43. By February of that year, enrolment had already risen to 36 Cadets.

From its earliest days, 754 Coquitlam Squadron was recognized as a valuable community resource for the Tri Cities area. Local youth developed citizenship skills through participation in community events and service, including supporting War Veterans at the local Royal Canadian Legion.

Although the Squadron originally accepted only boys, in 1975, girls were approved to participate equally in the Cadet Program, marking an important milestone in its evolution.

In 1969, a major fire completely destroyed Port Moody Secondary School, and the Squadron lost all of its equipment and records. Instead of fading away, the Squadron, supported by the community, rose from the ashes like a phoenix and rebuilt itself into a strong and thriving unit. During this period of renewal, the Squadron earned several awards and won multiple competitions. This rebirth inspired the Squadron’s new name: 754 Phoenix RCACS.

The original Squadron Sponsoring Committee consisted of local merchants, businessmen, and a few parents. Over time, it evolved into the modern Squadron Sponsoring Committee: a registered non profit charity under the Society Act, governed by an elected Board of Directors made up of parent volunteers.
